Hope and equal opportunity for every child
Mtoto Shujaa — “hero child” in Swahili — has served Kenyan children and families from Nairobi since 2015.
Our mission
Mtoto Shujaa supports school children wherever they are — independent of gender, religion, ethnic group or tribe, country of origin, or the political affiliation of their parents. We believe in hope and equal opportunities to basic education for all children.
Our philosophy
We believe that education is the foundation for a better future, and that hope and equal opportunity should be given to every child — in the city and in the countryside.
Our story
Mtoto Shujaa was formed in 2015 so that, together, we can help more Kenyan children get the education they deserve. We believe that achieving universal basic education is the single greatest step towards ending poverty.
How we work
Change built with communities, not for them
Communities
We start by listening. Our programmes are shaped with the communities we serve, in Nairobi and in rural Kenya.
Schools
We work alongside teachers and schools to get books, supplies and support to where they are needed most.
Parents & caregivers
Family forums equip parents to support learning at home — because education does not stop at the school gate.
Volunteers
Our volunteers, in their blue Mtoto Shujaa shirts, make every reading session, feeding day and sports clinic happen.
